Capybara Cafe
Capybara is on a mission to bring the vibrant spirit of Brazil to every corner of the UK, but as the new kid on the block they needed to stand out.
In a market dominated by chains, my work positions Capybara strategically, focusing on a unique array of speciality, small-batch coffee blends without the premium—bringing some flair to your morning brew at no extra cost.
At the heart of the design system lies the ingenious Brazilian spirit of ‘Gamiarra’ - the art of discovering unofficial yet effective solutions. By embracing idiosyncrasies, the design gives a joyful nod to the vernacular of Brazil and the intricate world of small-batch coffee, standing in proud contrast to the uniformity of bigger brands.
Embracing imperfections
The design system challenges expectations by embracing imperfections. Elements intentionally stray from perfection, with askew angles and shifted baselines encouraging consumers to try their daily brew a little different.
Typographic system
The system draws inspiration from the prevalence of vernacular typography across Brazil. Subtly shifts to the baseline allow for variety, embodying the vibrant expression for which the country is know. This is seamlessly paired with a dependable monospaced font as a subtle homage to the typewriter's enduring history and popularity throughout the country.
